PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Social Engineering:  The Capacity for Catastrophe

Have you ever been “socially engineered” by someone pretending to be a credit union member?

This fast moving program on preventing losses will focus on the information the identity thieves have before they call your credit union. You will learn how criminals target your credit union and, more particularly, you, when trying to obtain information or financial rewards. Understand how to question a person so that you can determine if they are a member or a thief.  Don’t let the criminals socially engineer you into giving them financial information or access to a member’s account.

Today, social engineers work for organized crime, gangs, or for their own benefit. This program will focus on the exact information they want from your institution. We will demonstrate several successful attacks showing how even you can lose your identity to a skilled social engineer.

  • Learn the six key pieces of information needed to steal someone’s identity
  • Know the one Internet site your financial institution needs to review weekly
  • Discover the publications you need to know about to protect your credit union
  • Know about the bulletin boards used to pass information about your credit union to the world
  • Discover how a social engineer learns your policies and procedures in advance of the attack

Who should attend?
Credit union staff that interact in person, online, or on the phone with members, especially in these positions:

  • Member Service
  • Teller
  • Call Center
  • Lending
  • Operations
