The ABC’s of Loan Participation
This introduction to loan participation is the first part in a three-part series to help credit unions who are looking to engage expanding their loan portfolios to include loan participation. Jeff Hamilton of Catalyst Corporate FCU, along with credit union CEOs who are actively using loan participation will explore the basics between loan participation and traditional investments. Meet the presenters:
Jeff Hamilton, CFA
Jeff Hamilton is vice president of Catalyst Corporate’s member credit department, managing lending activities including the agent loan participation program and derivative hedging program. Jeff previously spent 13 years at Western Corporate FCU where he founded and led the Financial Solutions Group, WesCorp’s ALM consulting service. He also served as vice president of research and member lending and vice president of portfolio management.
Prior to joining WesCorp, Jeff has worked in a variety of financial management roles, including serving as the chief investment officer for the Texas State Treasury and as vice president at Boatmen’s Bancshares in St. Louis, MO. He also was the founder/principal of a full-service real estate practice that focused on representation of buyers. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has his FINRA Series 7 license.
Linda White, CEO, United Health CU
Linda White is CEO of United Health Credit Union, located in Burlingame, CA, where she’s been for 31 years and has been its CEO since 1998, watching the credit union grow from $3m to $66m. She has served as the chairman of the CA League’s Shapiro Advisory Committee, sits on the CA DBO Advisory Committee, a board member for the Healthcare CU Assn (HCUA), serves on the El Camino Chapter board, and is the Chair of the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce Board. Linda received the 2012 Distinguished Service Award from CA and was also the PAC Grassroots leader of the year.
Linda is active in various small credit union networking groups to strengthen the peer relationship that may not be available with multiple departments or managers. She is a graduate of Western Cuna Management School and attended the Stanford Executive Development Program. Linda is a native San Franciscan and currently resides just outside of SF with her husband and dog.
Alex Casillas, CEO, MY Credit Union
Like you, Alex Casillas is a dedicated credit union advocate with 23 years of experience in the financial services field. Alex is currently the president of My Credit Union in Redwood City, California, where he started in 1997 as the Member Services Manager. He has been President of MyCU since 2004.
Alex is the current chair of the California Credit Union League’s Shapiro Advisory Committee and also serves on the El Camino Chapter Board of Governors. He is a graduate of the Redwood City/Belmont/San Mateo Chamber of Commerce Leadership program, as well as Western CUNA Management School where he graduated with honors in 2000.
