Social Media:  How It Can Help and Hurt Your Credit Union

While you may have heard the phrase “social media,” constantly repeated, what exactly does it refer to? How can it affect the way your credit union does business? 

In this webinar, we will address some of the basics regarding social media and online communications, and how these issues can affect your credit union. The webinar will focus on the implications of using social media, particularly in the in the employment context. 

For example, we will address these issues:

  • Can credit union management use information found online to make employment decisions? 
  • Can employee usage of social media be monitored?
  • What can the credit union do if its employees publish information about the credit union online?

We will also discuss the benefits of implementing and maintaining a Social Media Policy.

Meet the presenters:
Steve V. Balian is a partner at Styskal, Wiese & Melchione, LLP, which represents hundreds of state and federal credit unions. Mr. Balian's representation primarily focuses on mergers and acquisitions, litigation matters, personnel issues, general contract drafting and negotiation, regulatory compliance, charter and field of membership, as well as insurance coverage matters, and intellectual property related issues. 

Cynthia Wong joined Styskal, Wiese & Melchione, LLP in 2007.  Ms. Wong’s representation of the firm’s clients primarily focuses on employment law and personnel matters, general contract drafting and negotiation, and insurance coverage issues.
