eTrain: What Every Teller Should Know about Checks for Payment & Deposit

Can your tellers explain the critical items they need to know when taking checks for deposit or paying checks drawn on your credit union (two completely different lists of information)?

  • The two (2) primary tools used to recover losses on checks,
  • The key types of endorsements and how each type of endorsement affects your credit union as both a payor and depositary institution, and
  • Critical rights that must be evaluated before paying a check drawn on your credit union or accepting a check for deposit drawn on another institution.

Since every credit union issues its own checks and accepts checks for deposit, every teller/employee should know this information. If your credit union is going to provide excellent service and be able to prevent and recover check losses, it is crucial that your tellers attend this program!
