eTrain: How to Read a Credit Bureau Report
Credit bureau reports can be very confusing, even for experienced lenders, but they provide critical guidance in deciding the creditworthiness of a loan applicant. How do you translate the credit bureau data into useful loan underwriting criteria?
Let credit expert Don Goldammer walk you through a credit report and show you how to interpret the data it contains. He will explain the significance of each section, so that you can make sound loan decisions for your credit union and its members.
You’ll learn how to:
- Determine previous address and work history
- Evaluate public record information on bankruptcies, liens, and judgments
- Analyze payment patterns, including the frequency of late payments
- Check for recent inquiries from other current or potential creditors
- Identify other loans that you can bring to your credit union

Meet the presenter, Don Goldammer:
Don Goldammer has 25 years of experience as a credit professional in lending, collections, and portfolio management in the consumer finance and credit union industries, including 15 years in credit reporting. From 2003 – 2010 he was President/CEO of CCIS Information Solutions, providing credit information, employment screening, tenant screening, mortgage reporting, account management services, fraud prevention, livescan fingerprinting, and drug screening to businesses of all sizes in a wide array of industries. His company had four California offices, in Bakersfield, Fresno, Paso Robles, and San Luis Obispo. Since selling his company in 2010, Mr. Goldammer continues to work with credit unions, consulting in various areas including training, risk management, indirect lending program development, and lending compliance.
For a number of years, Mr. Goldammer provided consumer credit information and advice as “The Credit Guy”, on American General Media radio stations in the San Joaquin Valley in central California. He is a past member of the National Board of Directors for NCRA (The National Credit Reporting Association), the industry association for independent credit reporting agencies.
