Speakers: Dwight Johnston, the Chief Economist for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues, has more than 30 years of investment experience with financial institutions. For the past 14 years, including 12 years as chief economist for Western Corporate FCU (WesCorp), Dwight has focused on economic and market information and education for credit unions. He established Dwight Johnston Economics in 2010, and joined the Leagues as Chief Economist in May 2012. Dwight is a frequent speaker at credit union events, and is a columnist for Credit Union Digest. He has a degree in finance and economics from the University of Texas at Austin.
Suzanne Leedale, CEO, SLO Credit Union (SLOCU) has worked to strengthen the credit union since taking the leadership in 2007. Under her direction and guidance, SLOCU recently became a community charter financial institution, a strategic move that opened its field of membership. Prior to joining SLOCU, Leedale worked with the U.S. Army’s Finance Corps and pursued her career in credit unions in Fairbanks, Alaska where she worked her way up from financial service rep to Information Technology manager. She holds a Business Administration degree from Wayland Baptist University, is a graduate of Western CUNA Management School, the 2009 winner of The Tribune’s Top 20 Under 40 Award, and has served on a statewide advisory committee for credit unions in California in 2011 and 2012.
Bill Verret, Senior Consultant, Balance Sheet Solutions is responsible for working with credit union clients to analyze their balance sheets and identify areas of asset-liability management (ALM) risk and opportunity. Bill delivers comprehensive risk analysis, reporting, scenario testing, strategic planning and education to clients to assist with their interest rate risk management and ALM process enabling credit unions improve their ALM risk management practices and comply with rigorous regulatory requirements. Bill has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Balance Sheet Solutions, he was a Senior Interest Rate Risk Consultant with Financial Solutions Group, a division of Western Corporate FCU. Bill also performed mergers and acquisition analysis and mortgage servicing rights (MSR) valuations. He also conducted ALCO training and presentations for credit union boards and leadership teams. Previously, Bill was Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis for Downey Savings and Loan. Before that, he was Vice President at Hawthorne Savings and an Assistant Vice President in the Treasury and Secondary Marketing departments at Home Savings of America. Bill received his bachelor’s degree in Finance from Louisiana State University.
